Introduction

Hola!  Hello!  You are invited to a fiesta Fiesta means party in Spanish.  Who doesn’t like a party?  So let’s see ” what’s cookin’ ” and get ready for a celebration as we explore some foods of Mexico.

Task:

You have been invited to a Mexican fiesta. You need to find a Mexican recipe and prepare it for the party.

You will search the internet to find recipes, graphics, and nutritional information for your menu item.

You will create a poster to display with your completed Mexican dish at the fiesta.  Your poster will include your recipe.

Create a report describing your shopping experience and your cooking adventure.

You will also be required to turn in a copy of your grocery list.

Submit a copy of the websites you visited while working on your project.

·        Students you will be assigned a group to complete this project.

·        Some resources available to help you learn more about typical authentic Mexican food.

Process:

1.Choose one recipe that you would like to prepare. With the help of a parent, prepare that dish for the fiesta.

2.You will need to make a list of ingredients. This will serve two purposes. First, on your poster, you will need to include the ingredients and the food groups to which they belong. Second, you will need the list for shopping. You may find it helpful to look at the following web sites: http://www.asfsa.org/childnutrition/education/cincodemayofood.asp

http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/d_08_800.htm

3.Check for ingredients that you already have on hand. Then shop for the remaining items.

4.Did you have any difficulties locating any of the necessary ingredients? Where were the ingredients located in the store?

5. Assemble your ingredients and follow the instructions for your recipe.

6.You may find that you are using some of your math skills during the preparation of your recipe. Please tell us the math skills that you used when measuring and cooking your Mexican dish. What would you need to do in order to double your recipe? Try looking at this web site; http://appetizer.allrecipes.com/az/syNchDip.asp

7.Once your dish is complete, it is time to consider how you will present it at the party. What will you add to the display to make it appealing and befitting the Fiesta theme? Visit the following site for ideas:
