Courses and Degree Program (links to the university's online catalog)

If you are considering a career in newspapers, magazines, broadcast news, or public relations, our journalism program is for you.

These fields demand excellent writing skills. Whether you are writing straight news, features, or analyses, you will learn to draw your readers into your stories and clearly convey the facts.

You will also learn how to layout, manage, and edit publications. A course in newspaper production caps your classroom training. Using our Apple Macintosh computer lab, you will draw on your knowledge from all previous courses to write, edit, and layout newspaper pages. These pages are then printed by the local newspaper, The Herald-Star.

Conveying truth in the media is an important responsibility. The power and influence of writers, producers, publishers, technicians, and reporters must be used for the benefit of our society. Men and women with firm convictions, an informed conscience, and a solid grounding in Church teaching are needed to represent world events and societal trends in a truthful manner.

Whether you go on to work in corporate communications, the local news media, or become a foreign correspondent, at Franciscan University of Steubenville you will learn to communicate ideas that can change the world.
