Courses and Degree Program (links to the university's online catalog)

Radio and television impact every level of our society. Broadcasters, large and small corporations, service industries, and a wide variety of profit and non- profit organizations use audio and video to communicate with employees, customers, or other members of the public.

At Franciscan University, students learn how to conceptualize, write and produce programming in our radio and television courses. You can supplement class skills by assisting in the production of Franciscan University Focus, our international television program, which airs on EWTN, and by participating in the filming of the summer conferences. The Communication Arts Department also maintains a presence in a local chapter of the ITVA (International Television & Video Association), which gives students the opportunity to meet and learn about television from professionals in the field.  Our television studio and facilities include broadcast-quality studio and field cameras, a Grass ValleyTM  Digital Switcher, Compix computer graphics/effects, and non-linear digital editing systems -- including AVIDTM  and TrinityTM  -- and MackieTM and ShureTM  audio production equipment.

Our radio facilities include the WFRScc-FM computerized air and news studios (featuring SIMIAN automation) and a professional multi-track production studio featuring ProTools High Definition (HD)TM and MIXTM (with Surround Sound Mixing and DVD authoring), ProTools D24TM, MIDI music recording, Yamaha o1vTM digital audio board, an ALESIS HD24XR high definition recorder, a TASCAM DA-38TM digital multitrack recorder, TASCAM M-50TM and Mackie 24x8x2 audio consoles, digital effect units, DVD/CD mastering, a multiple digital recording units (R-DAT, Mini-Disc, DCC), and wide range of high-quality mics (AKG 414, Rode NTK, etc.)

As a junior or senior, apply your training through an internship with local radio and television stations, corporations, advertising agencies, public relations firms, or other community organizations. These internships provide you with even more of the valuable experience that employers are looking for.
