Mission
The role and importance of Communication Arts in our society continue to expand. The program leading to the Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Communication Arts (Radio/Television or Journalism) emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application of mass media skills in contemporary society. Along with a liberal arts background, the Communication Arts Program is designed to: (1) help develop graduates with the knowledge and artistic skills necessary to pursue a professional career in the broadcast and recording industries, journalism, or related fields; (2) provide a base for a wide range of practical experiences in mass media; and (3) provide appropriate preparation for graduate study in radio/television or journalism.

Our program -- fully integrated within the liberal arts tradition -- provides you with excellent preparation for a career in radio and television broadcasting, journalism, religious communications, audio production, desktop publishing and web design, public relations, advertising, corporate and industrial communications, or graduate study in mass communications. Students gain invaluable hands-on experience through the Troubadour, the campus newspaper, WFRScc-FM and WFENcc, the campus FM radio stations, or internships with local media. Also, students assist in the production of Franciscan University Presents (formerly Franciscan University Focus), a national television program aired on EWTN. Students also served as producers of Franciscan University Connections, a radio program that has aired on the WEWN U.S. AM/FM radio network and internationally via the EWTN/WEWN shortwave service.

Double Major
In addition, with as many as ten to twelve electives, our programs of study allow you easily to integrate a second major:  theology, political science, religious education, business, philosophy, psychology, history, computer science, and more, preparing you to take the lead as a communication specialist in a wide variety of fields.  Contact one of our advisors for additional information.
