ASSIGNMENTS:
READING ASSIGNMENTS: Unless otherwise noted, please do the reading assignment for the appropriate day before coming to class. The appropriate one is the one we will discuss on that day. We may fall behind or get ahead with respect to the syllabus.
POP TESTS:
At times there will be pop tests. These will have an impact on your participation grade. No make ups for quizzes will be given. One quiz grade will be dropped.PAPER: A paper will be due on November 18. Approximately 6-10 pp. long. Suggested topics will be distributed; further instructions on its method will be given in class. An outline of the paper must be submitted by October 26.
OTHER WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS
: At times I will ask you to write two or three paragraphs on the reading assignment as preparation for class.EXAMS: There will be two exams, mid-semester and final. The final exam will be cumulative. No make-ups will be given. If the mid-semester exam is missed then the final exam will count double.
GRADES: The grade will be calculated as follows: About 30% for each exam and the paper, and 10% for participation. (Regarding participation: this will be based on attendance, evidence of class preparation, pop tests, and written paragraphs—summaries or reflections on readings).
